No|bel Prize «noh BEHL»,
any one of six money prizes, averaging $1,000,000 each, established by Alfred B. Nobel (1833-1896) to be given annually to persons who have made valuable contributions to mankind in the fields of physics, chemistry, economics, medicine or physiology, literature, and in the promotion of international peace. Nobel Prizes were first awarded in 1901.
